Protection

Protect us justly from unjust invasion of our person.
But don't make laws that aim to save us from our fears,
Allowing us avoid confronting our own abusers -
Authority figures, religious guilt and shame,
Our parents, and our peers,
And ourselves, the judge inside our minds
That judges us against perfection.
It's easier to turn our hate on others
Than stop the hating of ourselves;
Since this is when we stop the fight
Against the pain we hate to feel,
And differences in others make them
Attractive targets for unjust persecution.
